Renault is a French multinational vehicle manufacturer established in … 1899 and in 2011, Renault became the third biggest European automaker by production. In July 1996, Renault marked a milestone with the privatization of the company. Taking advantage of its newfound freedom, Renault took a stake in Nissan in 1999. The company continued to innovate and renew its range with vehicles including Mégane and Laguna. Renault launched several successful new cars in the early 1990s like the Clio in 1990. The Clio was the first new model of a generation. Other important cars launched included the second-generation Espace and the innovative Renault Twingo in 1992. In the mid-1990s the Renault Megane was one of the first cars to achieve a 4-star rating, the highest at the time, in EuroNCAP crash test in passenger safety. In 2008, Renault pursued its product offensive with the launch of the New Mégane and rolled out numerous initiatives regarding the electric vehicle, partnering with Better Place and electricity utility EDF and presenting a prototype fuel-cell Scénic and the Z.E. Concept car. In 2011, the first electric vehicles were launched: Kangoo Z.E. and Fluence Z.E. followed by Twizy.
